International Conducting Course and Competition 2023

This summer Opéra de Baugé with conductor Konstantinos Diminakis will hold its 4th international conducting course at Les Capucins and the Centre Culturel René d’Anjou, Baugé-en-Anjou, France.

The course is designed for advanced students of conducting and for young conductors who have concluded their professional training, and wish to extend their knowledge and experience in rehearsing and conducting operatic repertoire. It will conclude with a public concert, conducted by the students. Professional piano répétiteurs and the Opéra de Baugé Festival Orchestra will play for the classes, final rehearsal and concert. The course is limited to 12 active participants.

The final public concert will take place on 4th August. A jury will award a first and second honour prize. There will in addition be audience and orchestra honour prizes. The concert will be video-recorded and copies will be provided to all participants.

Participants will arrive in Baugé at lunch time on 30th July and the course will start with lecture/demonstrations in the afternoon. Board and lodging from 30th July to the morning of 5th August is included in the course fee. Participants will be accommodated by local families and will take their meals with the festival musicians.  The course language is English.

Participants are expected to make their own travel arrangements to and from Baugé but we can help with local transport and transport between the course venue and participants’ lodgings.

Participants will be offered tickets for the operatic performances taking place during their stay, for Un ballo in maschera, The bartered bride and Cavalleria rusticana/L’enfant et les sortilèges. All performances will start at 6/7pm, with a long interval for dinner.

Cost: 1,450 € (VAT included) per participant, which includes all instruction and practice sessions, the final concert, board and lodging. An advance payment of 250 € must be made by 1st July to secure a place on the course, following acceptance of application. It will be refunded in full in the unlikely event that we have to cancel the course. Full payment will be required before arriving for the course.
