Cavalleria rusticana
An extraordinary coup for Opéra de Baugé! Monika-Evelin Liiv, who has sung the role at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and Jimin Park, an internationally acclaimed tenor who made his operatic debut at Opéra de Baugé, will sing Santuzza and Turridu in this intense drama of passion and jealousy. The short opera, set in Sicily, is as torrid and powerful as you would suppose and contains the famous Easter Hymn.
The opera will be sung in Italian and surtitled in French and English.

L’enfant et les sortilèges
As an antidote to the ferment of Cavalleria rusticana we propose a light and whimsical second course; a magical fantasy. The witty poem, by Colette, set to skittish music by Ravel is a pot pourri of voices, characters and instruments, (some of which you won’t have heard before). Imagine our two metre tall basso profundo impersonating an arm chair, a text book firing maths questions at you, a dragonfly accusing you of murder, and you get the drift. It’s frothy and fun.
The opera will be sung in French and surtitled in French and English.
