This is a wild tale of doomed love from the novelist Sir Walter Scott, set in the mysterious highlands of Scotland
Made famous by the voice of Joan Sutherland, Donizetti’s music is delicious and light, given the sadness of the tale. A family feud separates two young lovers. The highlight of the piece is the famous mad scene in which Lucia kills her unwanted bridegroom on the wedding night. Her madness is illustrated by a firework display of coloratura.
Our production features 18th century Scotland in costume and setting.
